I have a friend that has had his iPhone 3g on T-Mobile for a year:confused:. He got it unlocked (T-Mobile had to have his phone to do it) and he was on the service! Problems he had with AT&T made it possible.

I'm 99% certain iPhone 5 is announced at WWDC. Doesn't make sense to go further out, especially with Android bringing up the rear in a big hurry. I think iOS 5 and iPhone 5 are ready and being polished as we speak. Remember, the Verizon iPhone 4 came on the scene in a rush with little to zero leakage. Sure, everyone knew it was coming. But no one knew exactly when up until the last week, and I don't recall seeing much in the way of pre-release photos or detailed information before that.

Apple is good at secrets, and I think the high-profile leaks that have snuck out the last few products have forced them to tighten up the supply chain even further. I'd be shocked if iPhone 5 was pushed to September, let alone 2012 as some have suggested. I guess we'll see.

Ah, a last minute vote by Aggie. It looks like he might not have purposely bolded his original vote. Add his name to the list for tomorrow.

Maybe this is payback for what happened last year with Gizmodo. Apple figures well this is what you get for basically getting an early unveiling of the iPhone 4 last year. We'll just give it to you even later than we usually do hehe.

my fear is the democrats will try to use this a political gain and that is so very wrong both to the military and for this good event.

It turns a great event into worthless BS. It was just luck of the draw that a Dem was in power when this happen and it was only a matter of time. I already am watching some people try to turn it into political gain and it makes me sick.

Oh, like Bush didn't use 9/11 to get all of what he wanted done? 9/11 was a gift to Bush and he fully used it to full effect. If I were into crazy conspiracies I'd believe the rumor that he knew it was going to happen and did nothing. I mean after all it was a great way of encouraging us to get to Iraq where he really wanted to be (Funny how he quickly shifted his focus to Iraq). And also do stuff like introduce the Patriot Act all in the name of protecting us from the terrorists. Great, who is protecting us from our government and our own stupidity for letting the government do whatever they wanted in the name of protecting us from the terrorists (warrantless wiretapping anyone)? The terrorists won, we did exactly what they were hoping for.

So now I gotta ask, now that we got him do we still have to be in the middle east? I thought that was the whole reason why we were in there in the first place. Secondly, can we get rid of the patriot act now and go back to wiretapping being illegal if you don't have a warrant?

Oh wait, once government gets power over something, good luck taking it away. I just want to slap the Republicans now complaining about the powers given to the government from when they were in power now that the opposition is in power (what, did they expect that the government would only have those powers when the people they liked were in power? Though I'm betting they always thought the people they liked would be in control. And yes, I've seen people who were telling me why was I worried about warrantless wiretapping if I had nothing to hide and the government was only trying to protect us from the terrorists who then got all paranoid about what the government was doing once Obama came into power).

ALL OF THEM will use this as validation or some type of proof that we need to "stay the course" on our un-winnable wars.

If anything this will have just made our foreign policy situation worse. Get ready for the blowback, because this event definitely pissed off some extremists.

    Yep.

This solves nothing. What would really solve something is getting to the roots of why they hate the US so much or why many of them are so easily manipulated into thinking we are the enemy.

I'm not sure stuffing a corpse with candy is very hygienic. ;)

Seriously, though, we're going to treat him like Hector? Like he was some great hero worthy of our wrath and opprobrium?

I disagree, we should wrap him in an army blanket and bury Bin Laden in an unmarked grave; the man's had enough celebrity already.

Agreed. I think that this is a much better way of treating him. It's far more insulting to just not even give him the dignity of a marked grave but treat him as a total nobody.

I bought a Mighty Mouse when it first came out.

Personally, I love it. I do have clicking issues, but not the same as others - where others fins it accidentally left clicks when they try to right-click, I used to get right clicks when I tried left - but after a long time of use, I have learnt to use it as I need.

The scroll ball is awesome, but does seem to fail occasionally...a bit of dampness ont eh ball fixes this though.

If they add the "word processing mode", then that simultaneously renforces my gripes with it (see other threads), then negates them.

It's an extra step in setting up a document, but I like the thought of it from a productivity standpoint. As long as there's no Clippy.

I believe that it isn't suggesting anything at all. When you go to list the devices that your application is compatible with, that is likely just an exposed extra field for if you wanted to include another device that is capable. It is in my opinion, nothing but a little bug. (Though emulating iOS apps om my Mac would be cool :P)

That's what I'm thinking. I bet the code that generates that list of devices was just cut and pasted from somewhere else and someone got an extra one in there with this mysterious ix.Mac... thing in place as boilerplate code. I bet it means nothing.

However, if I were told it was indeed a new device and had to take a guess, I'd say it's becoming more and more likely that Apple is going to try to leverage the popularity of iOS to sell more laptops. Imagine a laptop with a touch screen that somehow could lay down flat and switch into an iOS mode, not emulated, but the real thing. Basically, it would be a laptop that could convert into an iPad. I can imagine a lot of interest in a single device that can run both OS X and iOS.

Me too. I didn't realize it has been 5 years since I bought my last pair of blue jeans. I only have 2 pairs of blue jeans, and 1 pair of dark greys. I don't wear jeans all the time like some people do, so I never think of replacing at least one of those. One pair definitely doesn't fit anymore, while I love the other pair (but they fit rather "meh").
I have about 3 pairs. One of those being "Flare". No idea why I bought those....

At $79 a year it will probably be 5 years before the program moves to a commonly useful level where it may have the ability to replace MS Office. The very casual Word Processor user will not have to wait very long, maybe Pages 3 or Pages 4. With the 5 X $79 = $395 we move into the price range of the non-educational price of MS Office. But for the heavy Office user, 5 years may not be long enough.

I write lengthy academic papers, am writing a play and a book which I am pretty far into. So far, I don't miss Word one bit, and that is using Pages 2.

Pages has a lot of features. It just takes some time to learn how to use it.

Will you keep Apple outta this? :d

This is an Apple message board!!

Back on subject - why on earth was his body lobbed into the sea just hours after his death? You'd think there'd be tests etc. on his body to prove it was actually him.

Sounds a little suspect to me...

And I wonder if the US soldier who fired the shot is now $25m richer.

But to answer your question, even if there were a legal restriction, there is definitely not any technical restriction that would prevent it from being installed in a VM anywhere.

What about Vista Authorization/Activation/Validation (whatever it's called).

You know, its the internet/telephone grovelling-for-permission-to-use-the-software part that comes after you've paid the latest installment of the Bill Gates friendship dues ... uh, I mean: purchased the new product.

Microsoft bought 150 million in non-voting stock. Hardly a controlling interest. They have since sold most if not all of that stock for a tidy profit. Apple in turn dropped the "Look and Feel" lawsuit (which they weren't going to win anyway) and MS promised updates to "Office" and IE. Microsoft has NO significant financial stake in Apple.

It had nothing to do with the "look and feel" lawsuit. Apple had lost that one five years earlier. The legal issues still remaining between Apple and Microsoft in 1997 were over multimedia.

Edit: And FWIW, Microsoft's "investment" in Apple amounted to about 5% of their market value at the time, which would hardly have been a controlling interest even if they stock bought them any votes, which it did not. Microsoft is thought to have divested the shares in 2000.

I went to South Coast and MV, both said try back in the morning, but no guarantees. Still deciding if I want to try again in the morning and where. South Coast was a fiasco with the mall cop.

That's why I'll never go to an Apple store in a mall.

Others have touched on this as well, but here's what Charlie said in one of his latest interviews (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/41824830/ns/today-entertainment/):

...Im not angry, Im passionate, Sheen told Rossen. Its everybody thinks I should be begging for my job back, and Im just going to forewarn them that its everybody else thats going to be begging me for their job back....

In the interview with Rossen, which was taped Sunday in Sheens Beverly Hills home, the actor accused Lorre of trying to destroy my family. He also again took aim at Alcoholics Anonymous, calling it a failed system developed by a broken-down fool that was a plagiarist. He claimed he has conquered his own drug and alcohol problems by the sheer force of his will: I closed my eyes and made it so.

After checking himself out of rehab, Sheen set up his own home rehab facility called Sober Valley Lodge, from which the principles of A.A. had been banned. I will not believe that if I do something then I have to follow a certain path, because it was written nice, he said. It was written for normal people, people that arent special. People that dont have tiger blood, you know, Adonis DNA.

He dismissed the idea that he has anything in common with addicts and alcoholics, who he says lack his strength of character, describing them as fools, trolls. Weak. Defeated. They allowed defeat to be an option. I will not.

Im tired of pretending like Im not special, Sheen continued. Im tired of pretending like Im not bitching, a total fricking rock star from Mars, and people cant figure me out; they cant process me. I dont expect them to. You cant process me with a normal brain...

Sheen accused his producers, Lorre in particular, of trying to destroy him and his family by trying to take all my money, and leave me with no means to support my family. Its not rocket science, you know?...

Rather than apologizing, Sheen said it was he who was owed an apology, by CBS: A big one. While licking my feet.Okay, this is past the point where it's funny. This man has some very serious mental issues. He's starting to out-crazy Gadhafi -- and that's not easy.

I'm excited about the update. I plan on getting a new iMac shortly after OS X Lion comes out.

I'm really hoping for an inexpensive SSD primary drive and 2TB secondary "spinning" drive.

A solid video card would be nice, but I really don't game that much, so that's not a deal killer.

I expect this may be the last of the classic 2005-style (L bracket, screen with "chin") iMacs produced. In 12-18 months I expect Apple will launch a new style of iMac with no "chin" and a drafting table style multi-touch screen.

One of the biggest moments in the World's history, not only America. Osama Bin Laden, the number 1 most wanted terrorist is finally dead.

I guess this proves everyone who doubted America and might have lost faith, that yes America can. Looks like Obama will be getting a 2nd term now.

I always knew it would be Obama vs Osama once he was elected. Very proud day for everyone who believes in peace.

Now, it's the Pakistan government which is in question, looks like Osama was chilling at a Pakistan Military hub for 6 years under the protection of Pakistan. And they said Osama wasn't in Pakistan lol.. he was living it large in a mansion and people thought he was in a cave.

Short-term wise, i'm worried about the retaliation of the terrorists. Looks like everyone will be on edge for the next few months. Also, i'm afraid more and more people might decide to take up Osama's old position as leader.
The war on terror isn't over, but this has definitely struck a very significant blow.

Some bird tweeted to me that his death was like a "BOOM HEADSHOT!"

Gee, thanks - this will make my friends who are loosing their homes to foreclosure feel a whole lot better...
