My MBP has been having some strange issues lately, so I've pulled the plug on Folding to see if that helps stabilize the system. That'll drop me out of the top 10 pretty quickly, what with all there crazy numbers some of you guys are posting. Ought to drop my PPD to about 1,400 or so.

I always wondered if the rumors of the iPad3 for September is actually a smaller tablet designed to compete against the Barnes & Noble Nook Color and (possibly) an upcoming Amazon Kindle Android tablet. It would feature iOS 5, Retina Display (for easier reading), the iBookstore, and could run iPhone or iPod Touch apps. Market it as a separate product, and maybe even use the iBook name again.
Then again - after seeing a TV commercial for a Samsung TV that has a bunch of apps, maybe the Apple HDTV set isn't a bad rumor either.
Well, If I was in product development at Apple*, I might look around and see what the biggest iPad competitors were producing and come to the conclusion that if I produced a 7" iBook running iBooks and a few other iOS Apps and priced it to compete reasonably well with the Kindle, then launched it shortly before Christmas then I might hook quite a lot more customers into the Apple ecosystem.
At the same time I'd hopefully attract the I-have-a-laptop-so-I-don't-want-a-tablet-but-an-eReader-would-be-nice segment of the market which, judging by the number of MR posters saying that here, is quite large.
*But I'm not. However I'll have a tenner on at Ladbrokes that that's what's coming in September.:)

Imagine the iPhone 4 sitting in the 3GS position a year from now. It will be amazing you can get a phone like that for the price it will be available for...
The current 3GS with the cheapest plan you can get from AT&T would cost you 90% of what the same plan and a 4 would cost you.
Not sure what's amazing about that, and I'm pretty sure that when the 5 is out, the 4 will end up costing roughly the same.

I was going to buy myself a MacBook air and since my girlfriend knew I wouldn't wait until Christmas to get it she bought it for me early for Christmas . So, I won't get a gift from her on the day, but man I feel blessed, I think I might have the best girlfriend in the world.

Personally, I'd hope that the new gaming consoles--read PS3--would offer some DIVX playback too. I have a Samsung HT-q70 that upscales to 1080i over HDMI and it has a USB port on the front that allows you to plug an external drive into it and it plays VCD, DVD, DIVX, MPEG 2 & 4. That would be a nice simple feature that can be added to these consoles that would make them more useful as a media center.

It's easy to discount anything going with that mentality. The fact is, Chrome OS is as much an undertaking as OS X was. It's more than just a "Web browser" since web browsers cannot be booted and don't provide graphical sub-systems, input management and process scheduling obviously.

I don't want to discount the intelligence of the people working at Google, but I don't think the management there has any respect for the property of others. Android is just one factor here, google has problems with copyright and the concept of personal property.

Thanks for calling me a liar. My date moved, without explanation, as quoted in the story. The only thing I can personally think of is dropping a third line from the family plan. Other than that, and thanks to autopay, my bill for the remaining two iPhones on the plan is rather expensive, and always paid in full and on time, so the other argument is invalid as well.

I like my G5 (the logitech mouse) for the laser, amount of buttons (the wheel has 3 clicks), the extra weight (you don't know you need it until you have it) and the smooth teflon pads on the bottom that make every other mouse feel like crap (stick to the table) when you move it. I just wish there were drivers for Mac. USB overdrive is ok, but I don't get the full 2000 dpi and the speed is still too low for my liking (everyone says I'm crazy with my mouse speed :p ). I have to reach across a 20" screen with less than an inch of mouse movement with no acceleration. It works under windows, dammit! If anyone has a solution for me, PM me please.
Maybe I'll get in of those Bluetooth "M5". I love that it works with AA batteries since I would hate having to charge my laptop, cell phone, iPod AND my mouse. Laser uses less battery power than the optical thing by the way so battery time should be good.

I did that but it still does not work. I rebooted my macbook, installed the latest security updates, wiped my 3GS, tried restoring and then updating to 4.3.2 - same thing just happened.

I don't see how this is going to work... How are they going to keep the same battery life in this form factor? At this price point, or are they going to increase the prices? I'm not going to go back to my 3GS battery life.

They probably made a change to the app store to add items to the "list of supported devices" and the developer left his test string in there. The Mac app store and iTunes app store probably share that bit of code, hence the mention of "mac". Its most probably meaningless.

If the new AIR is using the same Sandy Bridge processor as the Samsung series 9, you'll be sorely disappointed with its graphics performance.

We knew all this Graphics stuff already like a month ago from the Engadget review.
They said the Series 9 gets 25 mins less battery life (http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/samsung-series-9-900x-laptop-review/).
PCMag says the Series 9 gets almost an hour MORE battery life (http://www.pcmag.com/image_popup/0,1740,iid=291739,00.asp). These reviews are all over the place, and only tell part of the story.
Yes, the graphics (aka Gaming) performance will be less. But it seems on par or better than the 9400m, which people use just fine every day in the 2008/2009 MBA/MB/MBP's.
And regarding Battery life - we have no idea what Voodoo Apple puts into the power optimization of it's laptops.
All we can empirically say at this point is that the (U)LV i5/i7 chips with IGP consume about 21W TDP, which is less than the SL9400/9600+320m combo which some have pegged at over 30W TDP. The laws of physics seem to dictate that since it draws up to 10W less power and would (presumably) have the same battery, a SB MBA would have more battery life than a C2D MBA.
