Crap, just bought the bluetooth keyboard&mouse yesterday! Oh well, I don't really care about staying on top of the mouse tech world! Haha.

What is the battery life of the current Bluetooth Mouse?

Honestly Microsoft will fail, and it's not because they are going to take forever to show anyone anything. Microsoft will fail because it doesn't understand the demographic it is trying to produce a product for. Microsoft may cater to business and such, but in the eyes of teenagers, many of whom are anti-establishment, Microsoft is simply not cool. Not only is Microsoft uncool, it doesn't understand what IS cool.

True, but as i have send in a previous thread about MS, the people behind their XBox division are actually "cool" and creative and MS is said to be giving them lots of freedom. Let's not wholeheartly disregard our competition here - even though it feels good to do so!

I've seen the blue screen on XP. It's funny because I've been told by Windows users that it doesn't exist in XP, yet I witnessed it two weeks ago when a colleague of mine was trying to do something with Adobe Acrobat. The program just spazzed and the blue screen came up.

The reason you don't see it much is because the new default in XP is to just reboot the machine instead of sitting on that screen. It's still there.

That's the normal Mighty Mouse pane. It changes to that when you're using one. I can see you've never used one...

Um, I'm using one right now. The preference pane shown on the site is different to the preference pane I have.

    Here's the site:

Might want to get your eyes tested cause you're not seeing too well.

As always, the iPod is Apple's real cash cow.

Too bad for those of us who wish they would divert a little more of their attention to their computer line..

Yeah. Gawd knows Apple hasn't done a thing with it's Mac line-up this year.

Wow, amazing how emotional people always get whenever I make a statement that could sound slightly anti-iPod... I know you love your iPod and all (I am very fond of mine myself), but over the last few years Apple has been focusing a dispropotional amount of energy into their cute little gadget which has massively boosted their profits. For those of us that don't salivate over all things iPod, I think this is too bad.

    That is all.

    Do you even understand yourself?

You're first comment was more anti-Mac than anti-iPod.

Count the amount of things Apple has done to it's Mac line-up this year compared to it's iPod line-up, and then come back and tell us that Apple hasn't focused on it's computers this year WAY more than the iPod line-up.

    Think before you post.

    Es todo.

I hope this OS is to be bought & downloaded through the App Store and updates come through the generic "software update".

I think it will be on the App Store.. and via a physical disk. I have friends who don't have fast enough internet to even play xboxlive.. and have a high-speed limit of like 500MBs a day. So yeah.

Forgive my ignorance, but wasn't "Light Peak" supposed to be implemented via fiber optics for internal implementation?

if by "internal" you mean "inside the box," that seems unlikely. The main benefit of fiber optics is over distances greater than those inside a PC. Signals on PCB's travel at something like 25% of the speed of light (depending on dielectric), which may seem slow, but is very speedy compared to the long cables used to connect PCs to external peripherals.

And they delayed this update by 6-8 weeks for ... ?

Would/Should we have waited if we knew then what we know now and will know in the future ?
    :(

Probably because they needed to wait for sufficient stocks of the faster merom chips (you don't see many of the 2.3GHz offerings from other manufacturers, either). Now I just have to decide if I want to lug a macpro across the pond or go for a 17" mbp.

    cheers.

I'll say it before, and I'll say it again, this is a critical time for Apple and it's no time to be an Apple apologist. It's time to hold Apple's feet to the fire. Being soft on them isn't helping them. It's just enabling them not to realize their full potential.

OSX is good, but that's no reason for complacency. If Apple doesn't work out these bugs (and I know of more than a few irritating ones, besides the kernal vulnerabilities) it's not going to remain a quality product.

Ugh, don't go back to that awful scratch-magnet shiny metal back. It's bad enough us iPod touch users have to deal with it. That's one of the worst designs for a handheld. The glass back was classy and made for a much nicer phone. I also can't see why Apple would take such a huge step backwards in design to make it look more like the first iPhone.

Stop it please, you're hurting me... OpenStep is a specification of which GNUStep is a GPL licensed implementation released by the GNU project. Foundation and Cocoa are the NeXTSTEP acquired implementations that Apple is using.

OpenSTEP is not licensed under a GNU project license at all...

POSIX is not a kernel. It's a standard programming interface that UNIX systems used to make sure that one program written for a UNIX system would compile another as long as the standard was followed.

Minix, while being a POSIX compliant OS, was a complete implementation done by Andrew Tannenbaum for a book he was writing.

Your grasp of all of this history is quite muddied. Seriously, who are you trying to convince here ? You've gotten about every fact wrong about this whole thing. The plain fact remains, I was right all along, your correction was quite wrong when you said :

You completely misunderstood my post when I said Bash was part of the GNU project. Bash has always been GNU, always will be. The GPL is very much "GNU licensing".

Enjoy easter yourself and use the days off to work on your grasp of the whole UNIX and open source histories.

    From GNU.org (http://www.gnu.org/) :

Again, the Foundation is called the FSF, from their site, FSF.org (http://www.fsf.org/) :

Stop getting it wrong, we're on the Internet, the sites are there to correct you.

Ok maybe you are drinking a bit too much coke, so calm down a little - I said the Bash was under the GPL license - this is correct. You are equally correct in saying its under GNU (i just clarified in saying GPL). My mistake in saying you were wrong.

    2. I said the GNU was a project started in 1984 - we both agree on this.

    3. The FSF (a foundation) was what GNU evolved into - we both agree on this.

    4. Per Bash, i never said it wasnt part of GPL/GNU - it is - I agree.

    5. OpenStep is the open source repository of NextStep - per GNUstep, couldnt care less.

My unix history is pretty clear but thanks for the heads up.

Maybe lowering yourself a bit to be at her eye level would also make a good picture ?

She glows! I really like this just as it is, but I was thinking the same thing as Rowbear. How would it work if you went even lower, so the camera was looking up at her just a little?

This goes to show that Microsoft is not done taking business from others.

Even if this does generate some sort of competition for Apple and the iPod, Microsoft will be miles behind Apple as usual.

I hope this does not become a repeat of what happened back in the 80's. That is, first Apple comes out with great products and all is well for some time. Then Microsoft comes out with a poor copy of that product then takes 95% of the market.
