“The Green Bay Packers of Punk”- questions for Ian Mackay | Subcultural Studies Morning Class

In an article our class read the author claims that deviation from the norm has become 'normal'. Do you think that subcultures are dead? Has the idea of 'being original' died with the rise of consumerism?  Are there any groups or movements happening currently that you find interesting either negatively or positively?

ALSO maybe on a more personal note:

Everyone portrays you as an extremely down to earth guy, somehow unaffected by the temptations of consumerism, but do you have any guilty pleasures? I'm trying really hard to stop using paper towels, but I just can't break the habit. Any tips?  People see you as an icon, but have you ever been starstruck?  How do you put your lights on a timer? (But I guess I could look that up online)
