Microsoft & Skype Bought for $8.5 Billion « Courtizy

This is the largest purchase made by the Microsoft in its history. It is also, reported by Fox News analysts, to be the most aggressive move by the company recently.

The idea, set out by Microsoft, is to expand the communication service across Microsoft platforms (such as, Xbox 360). This will be a major step for Microsoft to combine communication and entertainment together, not to forget even the odds between At&t and Google.

There is the question of course of the history of Microsoft acquisitions in the past, such as Danger, Inc and Yahoo. The difference is that Microsoft has no point, but to keep Skype moving and growing. Danger, Inc one could say looked like competition for Microsoft's phone industry and squashed it. Bing, which now Yahoo uses as its search engine, was an attempt to out-do Google. I just don't see the point of Microsoft ruining Skype, in fact the expansion of Skype to Xbox live can only improve the service. Now the issue will come if Microsoft decides to turn the free service into a subscription or Microsoft only.
