Like any country, Chile is full of pros and cons. Here are some observations from our first year in Santiago.
Pro: No one seems to care too much if you dent their bumper (it is only a car) Con: Santiguans are awful drivers
Pro: Home garbage pick up is three times a week Con: There is no home recycling
Pro: Paying bills through internet banking is easier and more secure than in Canada. Con: You need to give your thumbprint if you want to increase credit limit on a credit card.
Pro: (actually Pro Plus Plus):Chileans eat, breathe and sleep football (soccer). Con: Kids can't join a football team until they reach Grade 6.
Pro: Mail is delivered on Saturdays too Con: It takes a month for a letter to arrive from Canada
Pro: The Andean mountains are a spectacular backdrop to the city Con: The mountains make a perfect wall for holding in the pollution
Pro: The ratio of dogs to humans is high Con: Many of the dogs are strays
Pro: For a big city, there doesn't seem to be a lot of rats or mice Con: The spiders are huge (the one in the picture is called a "pollito" (i.e. small chicken)Pro: Santiago is sunny in every reason, rarely rains and is never humid. Con: Are you kidding me? This is the best climate of any city I know.

Grocery Shopping is an unpleasant event - you seem to go every day and it still takes so long They always give you sparkling water and cookies with your coffee Expats are the only ones who walk their dogs (Chileans are driving while their dogs run beside the car for exercise) If you want good service - Go back to Canada Do not change your order in a restaurant as it will totally confuse the staff and you won't get it anyway When the store says open before 9:00 – they are lying Your house is always clean and laundry always neatly put away I do not have dishpan hands We have a lot of family togetherness Great holiday destinationsPossibly related posts: (automatically generated)
