Tattooed Dolls

There is an amazing doll maker in Boston by the name of Mimi Kirchner that I may of just fallen in love with. She uses recycled, recused and vintage fabrics and she's made some of the raddest tattooed dolls. I wish I owned all of them. But they seem to be already sold from her etsy. Booo!

Oh Valerie

I've ranted about my love of Valerie Vargas before and i'll probably do it again because shes's pretty much my favourite tattooist. I wish she would come to Australia soooon! I just saw some hands she's done and my god i'm in love! Classic but with a twist. The necklaces make this tattoo. If only I had thought of this first.

Also im digging her poster for the London Tattoo Convention!

Tattoo Darling v.5

Rose Hardy
I don't know why I haven't mentioned this lady earlier. The first tattoo i've seen by her was her pin up coming out of an egg and I loved it. She is currently working from Chapel Tattoo in Melbourne and Sacred in Auckland. I adore the way she does feathers and she creates the prettiest faces on her ladies. Be sure to check her out!
All pics taken from her myspace here.

I had been admiring this lady's work for a while now, so when she commented on my blog I was pretty chuffed. I can't not share her amazing images with you guy! She does the most original owls i've seen in a long time! Her blog is the cutest thing. Be sure to follow this lady because i'm predicting big things from her!

Rain Rain Go Away

I've been sick all week which isn't fun... today it was pouring down rain. This is how I spent my day.
I wrote a few letters that are way overdue!
I watched a movie that makes me happy.
I sorted out a bunch of my fabrics... here are my new favourites from spotlight.
I resized a bunch of photos of Dave's tattoos.
I also drank many an imaginary cup of tea from this little missy.

Tattoo Darling v.2

Mimsy Gleeson
This girl has got so many things going for her that I can't not mention her in my blog. She does work from a studio but is known for tattooing out of her vintage trailer at events such as Wintersun and Greazefest. Hence the name Mimsy's Trailer Trash Tattoos. She does the cutest mix of pin ups, zombies, cupcakes, lipsticks, hair dryers, perfumes and other girly creations. She recently got to tattoo the sweetest and sexiest pinup there is Sabina Kelly when she was out her for the Sydney Tattoo Convention. I think i'll shoot her an email to get tattooed at this years Greazefest...
Oh I almost forgot you might recognise her from the SBS documentary Roller Derby Dolls skating under Mimsy Mayhem.

Pics from here and here.

Back In The Habit

Yesterday I finally got my hair done which was long overdue, never has my hair looked so bad. I guess that's what happens when life gets in the way of being attractive. I also headed to blackbird corner, my favourite shop in Newcastle you can find them here. I bought a book i've been meaning to buy for a while now which is Tattoos by Mitch O'Connell. I bought it without really flicking through it and when I got home I was stoked at these two designs. Tonight I'm having my birthday party and it's a trailer trash theme. So i've been to every op shop in Mayfield collecting things to make my backyard look delightful. I'm hoping the weather keeps up.
Last night I went to training, so many new lovely faces and a few old ones that I love to give hugs. I've missed derby love so much and i'm so glad to be back. I got my fair share of bruises which always makes a derby girl happy!

Get Better Soon 2Ton.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw Inked Australia/New Zealand and my favourite Newcastle Roller Derby dame Calamity Cut Throat was in the issue along with some of the girls from Sydney. I scanned these pics to post here but the following day I heard that 2Ton one of the funniest and most upbeat people I have met (pictured above) was involved in an accident on Sunday morning... My thoughts are with her and her loved ones.
I'm aching to get my skates back on I haven't been to a training session in what feels like a year... miss you girls and your derby elbows.

Scans by me from Inked Aus/NZ issue #1

*Note after this was written 2Ton passed away... I don't even know what to say... RIP derby angel. If you can make it support Sydney Roller
Derby at this.

Why Hello There

This but this week has been pretty stressful, so I haven't had the time or energy to write. Dave is rehearsing at the moment so it's a little hard to concentrate with a band in the lounge room of my tiny house. I spent the weekend at work, at an engagement party, at a birthday that I missed most of because of drama and I had a good friend from Brisbane stay because he was getting scarification on half of his face.. which was an eye opener. (I'm not good with blood and spent most of the time pacing up and down the hallway like a husband whose wife is giving birth! It took four hours which is a lot of pain to mentally handle.)
Monday was spent at the studio Dave works in, it was closed but a workmate was tattooing a portrait of screamin jay hawkins on his leg. I'm jealous it looks amazing... I'm wishing I had thought of it. Lola Dave's three year old cutie requested tattoos from the shops apprentice so she sat the getting her hands, knuckles and sleeve done with a tattoo gun with a pen instead of a needle! it was super cute! (Don't worry its just like drawing with one of those pens that used to vibrate while you tried to draw... I had one and loved it so much. I'm not like the couple that actually tattooed their young children with a home made kit... there's no need to call docks on me haha)

Life Envy

After writing about Angelique in my previous post I grabbed out my copies of Tattoo Darling and Tattoo Mystique and realised i should of posted some of the pictures of her at home and some of her collages which give me major life envy... they make me think of Paris and Toulouse Lautrec, old time sailors, carnie folk and all the things that I adore. I'm in love with the colour of her walls and the happy and quirky vibes she creates. This talented dame is definitely from another time.
