Hyper-Threading (Intel Core i7 only) a technology that allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. So a quad-core iMac has eight virtual cores, all of which are recognized by Mac OS X. This enables the processor to deliver faster performance by spreading tasks more evenly across a greater number of cores.

    -.-

Come on only Hyper-threading with the i7 -.-

I was looking to verify that . . . it blows now that I know. I didn't want to have to spend the extra $200 for HT.

That's something I'll put on my list when I look at the next base model Mac Pro.

Wouldn't it be smart to wait for Lion in 2 months and get that for free...

Yes, it would, and I'd recommend that for anyone that doesn't need a new machine right this very minute.

I personally, needed one since I sold my Power Mac G5 almost 3 years ago. I've been dying ever since at the home office. I'd pay the $129 or whatever to get Lion later, and drop the cash on the iMac now if I needed a machine right this very minute.

Sober up, Steve. Less time on Time Machine and more time on solidifying the system.

AppleTalk: Who uses it, and why?

I'm pretty sure that any time you use Personal file sharing, you are using AppleTalk.

EDIT: More info... Personal File Sharing is based off of Apple Filing Protocol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Filing_Protocol). From wikipedia:

AFP versions 3.0 and greater rely exclusively on TCP/IP (port 548 or 427) for establishing communication, supporting AppleTalk only as a service discovery protocol. The AFP 2.x family supports both TCP/IP and AppleTalk for communication and service discovery. Many third-party AFP implementations use AFP 2.x, thereby supporting AppleTalk as a connection method. Still earlier versions rely exclusively on AppleTalk. For this reason, some older literature refers to AFP as "AppleTalk Filing Protocol". Other literature may refer to AFP as "AppleShare," the name of the Mac OS 9 (and earlier) AFP client.

Saw 127 Hours then went to Texas Roadhouse for the girlfriends birthday. I'm still squirming from the 'scene' and stuffed from the food.

I used to think that too and I was completely wrong. I used 'being busy with work' as a poor excuse. I absolutely regret it.

He's right - it's a simple formula and one that really takes some discipline...that's all. Just a touch of strength.

I'll also add, some knowledge too. Talking to a trainer with a nutritionist background was critical to my success. Understanding what the body needs based on your activity level, rather than what your MIND believes your body wants, is a small, but massively important factor.

ie. on days I work out, I'll have my protein drink and a massive bowl of oatmeal - topped with a scoop of jam and/or peanut butter and some brown sugar. 1. it's got all the glucose I need after working out and 2. it satiates me until mid-afternoon and then I have a normal lunch. I could go on, but I don't want to drag it.

My point is this: I hear you, I was you, but it's wrong. plain and simple. I normally don't tell people they're wrong so pls don't take offense :)

i'm in my late 30s, 2 kids, the stay at home Dad running his own business and I'm in the best shape of my life. My wife is a financial planner running her own brokerage and she's in fantastic shape. If anything, being in better shape, eating right etc... has made my wife EVEN more successful. She has the energy, her mind is sharp and I believe it's because her 'engine' is running tip top. It's like having an old beat up car vs a new super engine cooled kick butt car - which one is going to go further and more efficiently? :)

That's not to toot my own horn, but to say, it is possible. It has to be a lifestyle change.

And hey, it's 2011 - time to make that change :)

    Cheers,
    keebler

sounds great. But I assume you don't work from 7 am until 9 pm 3 days per week :p

look. I'm not trying to make excuses. I'm not THAT out of shape. I do bikram yoga 4 times per week and walk a lot. I just can't be as extensive about it as I was in my youthful years. I'm very healthy but I do need to drop 20ish lbs. per doctors orders. I've completely cut out any sugar drinks other than water and a few organic smoothies and an occaional glass of wine here and there. But at my age and with my busy schedule it's just not as easy as it was when I was 25. Not an excuse, just a simple fact.

now what this woman is doing is downright absurd. She is probably not intelligent enough to even completely comprehend the damage she is doing, or just doesn't care, which is worse.

Not sure if I would consider "AJA, BlackMagic, and Promise" to be "industry demand." :) I'll give ya Promise.

For video/digital cinema post & production, which NAB is all about, AJA and Blackmagic are very much major players.

Well to be honest I was referring to the windows version of Word. I use Office 2003 on Windows and Office 2004 for Mac. I am not sure if the Mac version of word has the same plug-ins.

On the windows version. Go to file -> new and select the publishing tab. From there select Brochure. It will fire up the wizard and template if you have these options loaded.
Got it - thanks (I use Win Office 2003 only a couple of times a year these days, so am somewhat rusty).

Great! Commoditize an art form and degrade it even further.

It's bad enough we've already hacked music apart by turning it digital, now we're treating it like soda pop. Everything is a bargain bin price war.

No, it looks like AT&T is going to get ride of T Mobiles 3G so make room for 4G LTE.

Its really not a bad idea....turns the purchase of T Mobile into something more then just one time growth. Also unless everyone followed Nokia with pentaband 3G devices, it would start to become a hassle.

    http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=7762

Did you read my comment ? Rogers and Fido, using the same bands, still haven't merged since Rogers' purchase of Microcell. Any plan to "phase out" the 3G bands of T-mobile are not short term as it would require replacing all the current customer bases' phones.

And again, a AWS compatible iPhone makes sense for the short/mid term. Other carriers (Videotron, Wind) in other countries will benefit and it will open up another US carrier to Apple. So people again : Don't let the AT&T/T-mobile merger plans fool you.

Tons of iPhone 4's being sold right now on both Att and Verizon... See it everyday

Yup. Last week I was one of those at the Apple store buying the iPhone 4. I was hoping to hold off until v5.0 came out but my v3.0 iPhone decided that the time was now. In the 30 minutes that I was buying/activating the phone six other people were doing the same thing.

I really hope that it comes tomorrow as my apple store credit card is on fire waiting to be spent. ;) however @dpdesilva on twitter is rumoring that apple will delay imac refresh due to leaks and rumors being overshadowed by Bin Laden's Death. Personally I think it might be B.S. I care more about my Imac than the story of his death.

Sounds like a load of bs to me.. someone is fame hungry.. Why would the news of Osama's death overshadow rumors/leaks of the new iMac.. they are both on totally different scales and subjects. One is world breaking news.. one is not and I don't see how it's going to stop people like me from being worried about other things like my life, daily routine and this iMac that I want ever so desperately..

[Edit] and if it's true that the refresh is going to be delayed because of Osama's death.. THEY'RE SO LETTING HIM WIN!!:mad::mad:

    My thoughts exactly.

I wouldn't care if their share is 1%. Just as long as they remain a sound business and keep up the R&D.Marketshare matters.

Why? The biggest and the most obvious reason is that developing for and porting software to OS X becomes more attractive to developers. Greater market share also helps Apple in its dealings with major partners like Intel and Microsoft.

The other big benefit for consumers is that we may see more product offerings from Apple as the number of macs sold increases. How about that Mac media center everyone's been talking about? Or the fabled Mac tablet?

iAdware apparently works by silently installing a system library. That sounds like a vulnerability that Apple could easily fix, by requiring Admin privileges, issuing a warning, and/or prompting for an Admin password.
I've been wanting them to do this for a while. There are already non-adware applications that do that (think "Smart Crash Reports"), which really bothers me.
