Well, at least with the new iChat features people MIGHT actually start using iChat instead of Adium. Maybe?

Oh yeah, forgot about iChat. :p The remote desktops feature is neat. But I'm guessing that it'll only work Mac-to-Mac? Can still put it to good use, but still - for going 10.4 to 10.5, I feel as if Leopard has its uses but is underwhelming in the end.

Wish I could get my taxes done, worked 3 jobs last year and only got my W2 for one of them :( didnt make much though...probably about 4k so maybe a $200 refund if that. Anyone have a guess? I always mark no dependencies or whatever so they take all the taxes out.

    That low price sells?

According to your past posts, selling phones at a low price ($49 in this case) is a sign of desperation, of an attempt to flood the market.

Heck, that's far cheaper than BOGO sales for other handsets where two people have sign long contracts.

Or, could it just possibly be that people aren't always swayed just by price? That the device itself could be a major factor?

Are there any carriers not giving away at least one free Android phone...

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I didn't care about Apple's market share when it was slipping in the 90s and I don't care about it now that it's climbing. I didn't buy my Mac to be popular and I don't particularly care that lots of people are (or are not) using them. It's just an irrelevant metric to me.
    ...
Besides, Apple deals in the kind of quality that will keep it around for many, many years, regardless of which way its market share is going and that's all that I care about.

You do realize that if Apple's marketshare were to drop to, say, 1% or lower, they would have very little money to spend on R&D, and the quality and innovation you seek would suffer tremendously? Which is why Apple was doing dismally in the 90's and is doing much better today. They are now flush with cash, and can pump out great hardware products, and develop and refine the software that drives sales. Market share (and high margins) is important to ensure a steady flow of cash for those projects.

So, you don't care about how market share affects you, but if you were the only Mac user, I assure you, Apple wouldn't be manufacturing products just for your puny market share. (To make an extreme example)

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1135747

    Thanks, just saw it.

Kind of surprised it's such a late thing... doesn't Apple tend to do events at 10 AM, not 10 PM? (I guess it's still only 7 PM on their coast... still, isn't it time to go home by now for their employees?)

it looks to me that we are still ranked 59. and the next group is about to pass us!

but yes, talking about it more here helps out quite a bit. the more we interact here, the better

We lost our spot again. We passed Team Lithuania for a brief time as yesterday was a big day for us and a bad one for them.

The word "same" never occurs in the text, which never contemplates multiple installs.

It says you can't use it in a virtual machine. End of story. End of discussion.

Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses to also run the same licensed copy of Vista running natively on the licensed device in a virtualization environment as well.

In other words, if you purchase or build a PC with Windows Vista Ultimate, you can use that same installation and license to install it in a virtualization environment on that same platform. That goes beyond what has been done on any other platform for virtualization, and why the limitation is specifically delineated on Vista Home:

You may not use the software installed[1] on the licensed device[2] within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system.

[1] This means "the software" (i.e., Vista Home Basic or Premium) is already installed on a licensed device.

[2] The "licensed device" is the device that Vista Home is already installed on, and that license may not be reused to also install it in a virtualization environment, which you CAN do with Vista Business and Ultimate, because Microsoft includes additional licenses specifically for virtualization use, which is why there are all these specifics about virtualization use on the lower end Vista versions in the EULA in the first place.

The Vista Business/Ultimate EULA on the same topic states:

    6. USE WITH VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES. You may use the software installed on the
licensed device within a virtual (or otherwise emulated) hardware system on the licensed device. If
you do so, you may not play or access content or use applications protected by any Microsoft digital,
information or enterprise rights management technology or other Microsoft rights management
services or use BitLocker. We advise against playing or accessing content or using applications
protected by other digital, information or enterprise rights management technology or other rights
management services or using full volume disk drive encryption.

This is because Vista Business and Ultimate include additional licenses so that you can use the same copy, legally ALSO within a virtualization environment on that same system. This is more than is possible with any other commercial OS, from a licensing perspective. The restrictions on Vista Home are ONLY restricting you from using it in a VM on the device where it's already installed. If you buy Vista Home standalone as a retail box, and it's not installed anywhere else, you are free, legally and technically, to use it in a VM to your heart's content.

After seeing the update along with the photos, I'm really going to have to fight the urge to get one of these.

What makes it worse is that I will have to purchase a Bluetooth dongle.

If there were so many problems with the white iPhone 4, how come Stephen Fry has had one (and used it) from the beginning?

Fry has serious adulation for Apple products. No surprise he did the black to white conversion with the phone.

    Again:

-Intel Chips are not innovation. Its change of suppliers.
    -Magsafe is an actual innovation.
-24" monitors have been around for like 10 yrs.... slappig into an iMac isnt innovation its either ballsy managing or perfect timing
-A webcam.... and a software to list all ur media.... nice not new. ITS A WEBCAM PEOPLE. THATS ALL. IT DOESNT SAVE CHILDREN.
-I thought Sony had a laptop that did this already? Can't confirm.

I can confirm that my Sony Vaio does in fact save children.

I'll only upgrade if this fixed the ****** animation glitches and battery drain. 4.3 h been a nightmare and the first update to it certainly didn't fix much. I'll wait for a report.

I agree with the animation glitches. For the 5 minutes I've had it on my iPhone (Did a restore, instead of upgrade), haven't noticed animation glitches like I did with 4.3 and 4.3.1, so I would say that it's a safe bet to upgrade it. Everything seems to be a lot more fluid this time around. Hope that helps. Enjoy!

Is it easy for us to install an SSD by ourselves? (I'm not a geek)
You need some strong suction cups to remove the screen (the whole back chassis is one piece, the only access is via the screen) and more importantly a dust-free environment, otherwise when you put the screen back on (or rather the glass pane in front of the actual screen) you can easily trap dust between the glass and the monitor.
The difficult thing is the dust-free environment.

whats funny is that I walked into the Mac Store yesterday, the guy new everything about the product but seemed a little too clueless about the product cycle.
Mac Store employees *don't* know anything specific about product updates.

There's almost 1000 Apple store employees worldwide. If they knew details, don't you find it really, really odd that none of them leaked any?

    THIS IS DISGRACEFUL !!!!!!!!!

With AT&T being the cell phone carrier that charges the most, they should be EXPECTED to provide the best quality service in the industry. If AT&T thinks 30% of all calls being dropped is "normal," this is absolutely unacceptable! So this means that of every ten phone calls to 911, 3 being dropped is "normal" and acceptable????? And major corporations with thousands of employees are supposed to sign up for cell service with AT&T, knowing that 30% of all calls (with customers) being dropped is, in AT&T's eyes, acceptable????????

Far as I know, Verizon charges the most

But yeah, having switched from Verizon to AT&T, trying the Blackjack 2, then the Fuze, then the iPhone, AT&T service sucks. If the iPhone wasn't such a great phone, I'd be back on Verizon even if I had to pay more

Though the one guy's comment about the carrier exclusivity being the real problem is something to think about
