Gambhir to skipper India ODI side in Caribbean « The On-Drive

GAUTAM Gambhir has been selected as India captain for their upcoming one-day series against the West Indies.

The prolific left-handed batsman, who has scored more than 4,000 runs in ODIs, stands in for MS Dhoni who has been rested for the ODI part of the tour.

This will not be Gambhir's first shot at the captaincy – he led India to an emphatic 5 – 0 series win against New Zealand in an ODI series last year. Suresh Raina will be deputy skipper for the five-match  ODI series starting on Saturday June 4.

Other players rested include Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan. The tourists will also be without opening batsman Virender Sehwag and bowler Ashish Nehra due to injury.
